Monograph Presentation
Thursday, Feb 23 2017

The presentation of the monograph ”A Living Dream – Life's Work and Path of the Academician Daniel Rukavina” written and compiled by Ms. Elvira Marinković Škomrlj, the book's Editor, was held in the Aula Magna at the University of Rijeka Rectorate which was too small to accommodate all those who wanted to attend the event. The presentation was held yesterday, February 22, 2017, on the occasion of Academician Rukavina's 80th birthday.

In all our memory’s movies that are being played out within, it is incredibly difficult to sufficiently slow them down or stop those rich internal movies in order to transmute them into written form. I have, however, endeavoured to stop that movie capturing several scenes and situations from our joint professional life, of my teacher, Professor Rukavina and me, which has been intertwined for over three decades encompassing my professional coming-of-age as a researcher and through my personal maturing as a head, leader, and public person.

Professor Rukavina is an old-school gentleman with innate elegance who strived to infuse any person he worked with, or occasion he partook in, with dignity and grace. I was lucky enough to have worked with and learned from Professor Rukavina over a thirty-year time span and this monograph bears witness to an exceptionally wealthy professional life as well as a time of creation and all of us who had the privilege to come of age in the era of Professor Rukavina.

Professor Pero Lučin, M.D., Ph.D., - an excerpt from the Introduction

It is not over-the-top to state that this book is about a man who was a trailblazer and pioneer of the University of Rijeka's development thus paving the way for the University to enter the 21st century simultaneously leaving a lasting imprint in the city, community, and university of Rijeka, respectively.
