US Ambassador visits UNIRI

The Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Croatia H.E. Ms. Julieta Valls Noyes visited the University of Rijeka on June 14th, 2017. H.E. met with Madam Rector Prof. Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., and attended the final presentation of the BootCampIT at STEPRI.

This was the second official visit of Madam Ambassador Valls Noyes to the University of Rijeka, while the inaugural reception of H.E. at the University was held in February 2016.

Madam Rector Prijić-Samaržija and the Director of STEPRI, Mr. Boris Golob, welcomed Madam Ambassador to the Meetings Hall at the STEPRI Science and Technology Park of the University of Rijeka. H.E. was accompanied by the Counselor of Embassy for Public Affairs, Mr. Christian Michael Wright, while Madam Rector and Director Golob were accompanied by: the Vice-Rector for Studies and Students Prof. Sanja Barić, Ph.D., the Vice-Rector for Science, Prof. Alen Ružić, Ph.D., the Vice-Rector for Organization and Infrastructure Management Prof. Goran Turkalj, Ph.D., and Madam Rector's Assistant for Entrepreneurship Prof. Damir Zec, Ph.D.

Ms. Valls Noyes congratulated Madam Rector on the recently elected mandate: "Congratulations, Madam Rector! I think it is wonderful to be at the forefront of this growing and thriving University and I wish you a lot of success during the mandate!" Madam Rector took the opportunity to present her Team of Vice-Rectors to the Ambassador and briefly acquaint her with the current situation at the University of Rijeka.

After a short talk on the plans and the future of the University, as well as the Embassy, Madam Ambassador and Madam Rector attended the final presentation of the winning project teams - a demo-day BootCampIT, sponsored by the UNIRI  Science and Technology Park-
STEPRI under the auspices of the United States Embassy in the Republic of Croatia.

During the quarterly free intensive young programmers education, the attendees gained knowledge that will help them to be more competitive in the market to find a job in this growing business sector. More information is available at the following link: http://bootcampit.com.hr/

After presenting the best projects, interested employers socialized with the participants and individual interviews were organized as well.

Madam Ambassador wished all participants success at finding a job, highlighting the big expansion of the IT sector and the need for new jobs within said sector.
