5th UNIRI Senate Session

The 5th regular Senate Session was held today on September 19, 2017 at the University of Rijeka Rectorate. Full Professor Marko Čanađija, Ph.D., from the University of Rijeka Faculty of Engineering was elected as a member of the University Council in the field of technical sciences.

Associate Professor Patrizia Poščić, Ph.D, and Full Professor Dean Crnković, Ph.D., have been confirmed as respective Heads of the UNIRI Departments of Informatics and Mathematics. The following professors were permanently confirmed tenure as full professors: Full Professor art. Emilija Duparova, Ph.D., from the University of Rijeka Academy of Applied Arts, Professor Svjetlana Hess, Ph.D., from the
University of Rijeka Faculty of Maritime Studies, Professor Olivera Koprivnjak, M.D.,Ph.D, from the University of Rijeka Faculty of Medicine and Professor Svjetlan Feretić, Ph.D., from the UNIRI Faculty of Civil Engineering.

The following professors were confirmed tenure as full professors for a 5-year period: Associate Professor Zvonko Čapka, Ph.D., from the UNIRI Faculty of Economics, Associate Professor Miran Hess, Ph.D., Associate Professor Dragan Martinović, Ph.D., as well as Associate Professor Mate Tudor, Ph.D., all from the UNIRI Faculty of Maritime Studies, Associate Professor Željko Župan, M.D., Ph.D., from the UNIRI Faculty of Medicine, and Associate professor art. Dražen Trogrlić from the UNIRI Academy of Applied Arts.

Madam Rector Prijić-Samaržija reported that the Croatian Ministry of Science and Education made a decision to stop the process of amending the Science and Higher Education Act and to proceed with more detailed modifications.

Madam Rector announced the execution of the lifelong learning program entitled “Governance and Strategic Management in Higher Education”, set for next week, along with noting the establishment of the University of Rijeka China-Croatia Cooperation Committee (CCC UNIRI) for collaboration with the PR China. This Committee will include representatives from the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County, the City of Rijeka, and from the Rijeka business and social community. The CCC UNIRI’s activities will primarily be focused on developing mutually beneficial strategic partnerships, exchange of scientists, experts and students, cultural programs as well as covering the field of sports.

On September 20, Madam Rector attended a Working Luncheon with Ambassadors, organized by H.E. Dr. Smiljana Knez, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovenia to the Republic of Croatia, and held at the official Residence of the Slovenia Embassy in Zagreb. Alongside Madam Rector Snježana Prijić-Samaržija as the guest of honour, the Luncheon was attended by other Ambassadors to the Republic of Croatia, namely, respective Ambassadors of Austria, United States of America, Italy, Hungary, and Slovakia.

Student representatives reported on the Freshman Camp RIBROO, set to take place for the fifth year running, from September 28th to October 1st, 2017; on the Student Funding Tender along with the tenders to fill the posts of the Student ombudsman and members of the Dorm representatives.

Within the thematic framework of one of the points of the session, Deloitte representatives presented recommendations based on the analysis of financial position and financial business and sustainability of organizational solutions and strategic development options of the University of Rijeka. Deloitte has confirmed the situation that the new University Administration has found upon taking over the duties, determined the reference to be used for determining the achievements of the new management and identifying strategic goals and plans for the next period.
