Upon the stipulation and signing of the agreement between the UNIRI Faculty of Engineering, the AITAC company, and the CADCAM Group, on the establishment of the 3D Experience STEM Lab, several presentations on the CAD capabilities of the 3D platform were given at the Faculty. The platform is intended to be used by the students of Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering and Computing.

At the opening ceremony of the 3D Experience STEM Lab, which is equipped with the latest engineering technology, a variety of the CAD capabilities of the new 3D Experience platform were presented along with computer-integrated equipment (Virtual Reality, Marine and Offshore engineering solutions for shipbuilding). Curious visitors could try out the new platform with expert assistance – they were able to step into the virtual reality of the most complex structures within the 3D Experience platform using an HTC Vive device, as well as meet Poppy, a humanoid robot built by students using the 3D Experience platform and 3D printing technology.

Thanks to the partnership with AITAC and the CADCAM Group, the Faculty of Engineering has been provided with academic licenses for the new 3D Experience platform for product engineering and development for the period of 10 years. The 3D Experience STEM Lab equipped with a comprehensive business platform composed of various brands and solutions by Dassault Systemes, which is represented by the CADCAM Group, makes it possible for the students at the Faculty to keep up with the latest technologies in product engineering and development.

The AITAC company primarily deals with designing in naval architecture and offers consultancy services in the field of the 3D Experience solution implementation in shipbuilding. The company also actively uses the same solutions in their daily operations.

The aim of this project is to encourage students to expand their knowledge on modern technologies so as to become more competitive in the job market, as well as better candidates for potential new job positions at AITAC. In addition to CAD functionalities for 3D engineering, the 3D Experience platform enables the integration of all processes and data throughout the product’s lifecycle into an information environment with clearly defined user roles and authorizations, applications for 3D engineering, modelling and simulations, as well as applications for intelligent data management, i.e. data search and systematization. It brings engineers, designers, managers, marketing, sales and other departments and locations together into an integrated collaborative environment.
