GLAT - Games for Learning Algorithmic Thinking (2017-1-HR01-KA201-035362) is a project co-financed by the Erasmus + Program within the framework of Key Activity 2, Strategic Partnerships for the Area of General Education.

The main goal of the project is to encourage the inclusion of coding and algorithmic thinking in teaching different subjects in lower grades of elementary school in a fun and attractive way. It is expected that this will lead to a greater interest in programming in the long run and will influence the choice of future studies and professions in ICT and STEM.

The most important activities within project include the professional development of teachers who will be familiarized with various innovative teaching methods using information and communication technology, with the emphasis on using GBL learning strategies and encouraging creativity, logical thinking and problem-solving skills.

The project started on October 2nd 2017, and will run until September 1st 2019. The project coordinator is the University of Rijeka - Department of Informatics (project head: Nataša Hoić Božić, Ph.D.). Partners in the project are: Faculty of Teacher Education, University of Rijeka, University of Tallinn (Estonia), Faculty of Pedagogy at the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), University of Sv. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje (Macedonia) and Southwest University "Neofit Rilski" in Blagoevgrad (Bulgaria).

The project team brings together European experts in the field of IT teaching, e-learning and GBL teaching, who will work on the development of syllabuses and teaching materials for primary school teachers. During the project, the focus group of teachers will participate in education tailored to the mixed e-learning model. The three workshops to be held in Croatia represent the key part of the education, while the online part of the education will take place through the e-learning system. Drawing from the expertise of the project team, the focus froup teachers team will be able to apply new knowledge to the development of learning scenarios, and then utilize the inventive learning scenarios in teaching their students. Teacher and student feedback will be used to improve the designed e-learning course, and an improved version of the syllabus and the learning materials together with the best examples of learning scenarios will be publicly available as one of the results of the project. The aforementioned materials will be published in Croatian and English, so not only Croatian, but teachers from across Europe can use them.

Preparations for designing syllabuses and planned workshops have already begun at an introductory project meeting held at the University of Rijeka - IT department on October 19th, 2017.
