Human Rights Round Table

A roundtable discussion called "The Status of Human Rights in the Republic of Croatia - The Role of the Academic Community" was held on Monday, December 11th, 2017, in the Town Hall of the City of Rijeka. The discussion was organized by the Association for the Development of Higher Education "Universitas" in cooperation with the University of Rijeka on the occasion of the International Day of Human Rights celebrated on December 10th, 2017.

The roundtable discussion was moderated by Assistant Prof. Marko Turk, Ph.D., Head of the ''Universitas''. 

Dijana Kesonja, LLB, the Ombudswoman's counselor from the Regional Republic of Croatia Ombudswoman's Office in Rijeka, briefly presented the results of a research on prejudice related to human rights conducted by the Office among the citizens.

Full Prof. Sanja Barić, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Constitutional Law of the UNIRI Faculty of Law and Vice-Rector for Studies and Students, held a lecture on the importance of human rights as an entity far more superior than any other ideology.

Assistant Prof. Dalida Rittossa, Ph.D., from the Department of Criminal Law of the UNIRI Faculty of Law, held a lecture on the right to abortion.

Full Prof. Elvio Baccarini, Ph.D., from the Department of Philosophy of the UNIRI Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and Rector's Assistant for Ethics and Academic Integrity, held a lecture on equality.

Associate Prof. Bojana Ćulum, Ph.D., from the Department of Pedagogy of the UNIRI Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, held a lecture on globally engaged education in the local environment, i.e. what kind of education could be.
