Thursday, Dec 14 2017

Assistant Prof. Nicholas Bradshaw, Ph.D., from the UNIRI Department of Biotechnology, received a donation – a centrifuge, a device worth about 20,000 Euros, from Mr. Arne Hartig, the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany Cultural Attaché, on Thursday, December 14th, 2017. The donation was made by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.

Prof. Nicholas Bradshaw, Ph.D., joined the Department of Biotechnology this year in June and received the donation as a former scholar of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation based in Bonn, Germany.

Mr. Hartig, accompanied by Mrs. Marlene Weck, representative of the German Academic Exchange Service, was welcomed by Prof. Anđelka Radojčić Badovinac, Ph.D., Head of the Dpt. of Biotechnology, and Prof. N. Bradshaw, Ph.D.

The centrifuge is a high-speed liquid spin device which isolates biological materials of scientific significance. The centrifuge, of 4 liters capacity and the maximum speed of 13,700 spins per minute, will be used to purify the protein for the study of proteins involved in frequent and severe mental illnesses such as schizophrenia and depression. The members of other laboratories will also be able to use the device for their research.
