New UNIRI Rector Elected

Professor Snježana Prijić Samaržija, the current Vice-Rector for Studies and Students, was elected today, February 28, 2017, as the Rector of the University of Rijeka. The second woman in office and 14th person at the head of the University, she won a clear majority in the second round with 14 votes at today's Senate Session.

The voting was held during a closed session and 23 members of the University Senate voted for six candidates running for Rector. After the first round of voting the two with the most votes were Professor Zlatan Car, Ph.D., the current Vice-Rector for Informatization and Professor Snježana Prijić Samaržija, Ph.D., who won the required majority of 14 votes in the second round of voting.

The current Rector Professor Pero Lučin, M.D., Ph.D., who spent eight years in office as Rector, that is, two Rector's mandates, will hand over the Rector's powers and insignia at the handover ceremony, set to be held on April 27, 2017.
