Inauguration Ceremony for New UNIRI Rector

An Inauguration Ceremony for the newly elected University of Rijeka Madam Rector Professor Snježana Prijić Samaržija, Ph.D., was held in the building of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the UNIRI Campus on May 18th, 2017. Rector Lučin handed over the rector's insignia (the rector’s chain) to the new Madam Rector.

Her predecessor Prof. Pero Lučin, Ph.D.,  has spent two terms as the Head of the Univeristy (from 2009 to 2017), and during both Prof. Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., held the position of the Vice-Rector for Student Affairs (the Vice-Rector for Teaching and Student Affairs during the first term and the Vice-Rector for Studies and Students during the second term). Out of a total of fourteen rectors, Prof. Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., is the second woman at the Head of the University of Rijeka after the Rector Prof. Katica Ivanišević, Ph.D., (term from 1993 to 1998).

Professor Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., has been a Vice Rector at the University of Rijeka for the past nine years. She is a full professor at the Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. She is the founder and director of the Center for Advanced Studies of Southeastern Europe, was previously the Director of Rijeka University Foundation and director of several courses and conferences at the International University Centre Dubrovnik. The main areas of her academic interest and publications are social philosophy, epistemology and applied ethics.

Rector Lučin handed over the rector's insignia (the rector's chain) to the new Madam Rector Prijić-Samaržija, and they both gave speeches.
