A symposium dedicated to personalized medicine, organized by the Rijeka branch of the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence and the University of Rijeka, was an excellent opportunity for Prof. Ivan Đikić, Ph.D., to meet and talk with the University of Rijeka Rector, Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., after which he pointed out:

''I enjoyed talking with young people and young directors of the Biotechnology laboratories in Rijeka. I was particularly impressed by the meeting with Madam Rector when I really became aware of this positive and progressive approach that will help this University improve its educational and scientific potential. I am pleasantly surprised by everything I have heard about the future of the University. I realized that my scientific critical thinking about the current situation in Rijeka is fully appreciated, as are my pieces of advice on how to improve it as soon as possible. Considering the insufficient resources, I think young scientists from the University of Rijeka have yet to show their full potential.’’

Although he does not need a special introduction, it should be stated that Ivan Đikić is one of the most successful Croatian scientists abroad. He is a Full Profesor of Medicine at the Goethe University in Frankfurt, a winner of the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize, the most prestigious scientific acknowledgment in Germany, and a member of the German National Academy of Sciences Leopoldina. Furthermore, he has also won awards from both the American (AACR) and European (EACR) Association for Cancer Research.
