On Challenges in Teaching

One of the numerous activities that took plase as a part of the daylong visit of Professor Blaženka Divjak, Ph.D., Minister of Science and Education, to the University of Rijeka was also a panel-discussion entitled ''Students, learning, teaching – The Status and Perspectives of Training and Teaching of Higher Education Teachers in Teaching'', held at the University Student Center's Cafe ''Akvarij'' at the University of Rijeka Campus.

A presentation entitled "The Status and Perspectives of Training and Teaching of Higher Education Teachers in Teaching" was held after the introductory remarks by respective Madams Rector Prijić-Samaržija and Minister Divjak. Prof. Jasminka Ledić, Ph.D., and Associate Prof. Marko Turk, Ph.D., both from the Department of Pedagogy of the UNIRI Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, held the presentation.

Prof. Svjetlana Kolić Vehovec, Ph.D., Prof. Sanja Smojver Ažić, Ph.D., and student representative Aleksandar Šušnjar participated in the discussion which followed after the presentation.

The Ministry of Science and Education recognizes the projects related to the promotion of the importance of teaching competences and the development of training programs for the higher education teachers for teaching, which only proves that there indeed is a problem of a lack of competence. However, the presenters, professors Ledić and Turk, advocate for the introduction of systematic, institutional-inspired practices of education and training of university teachers.
