HEPMP Project – Working Visit

A working visit for the holders of the project ''Strengthening Capacities for Higher Education of Pain Medicine in Western Balkan Countries'' (HEPMP) was organized at the UNIRI Faculty of Medicine, from 26 to 29 May 2018, and coordinated by Prof. Željko Župan, M.D., Ph.D. The project was aimed at informing partner institutions about the capacities of clinical invasive treatment of acute and chronic pain carried out at the Clinical Hospital Center (KBC) Rijeka and on the status of curriculum for undergraduate and graduate studies at the Faculty of Medicine in Rijeka, on the topic of pain and its treatment, as well as the ways and difficulties in trying to change the curriculum in undergraduate studies in the Medical program.

Following the program and the content presented in Rijeka, program countries and universities will organize courses at their institutions in order to transfer knowledge and competencies necessary for the treatment of acute and chronic pain. The experiences associated with changing the curriculum, the curriculum itself and the way of maintaining multidisciplinary teaching were also of great importance for program country representatives.

The professors of various clinical specialties from Belgrade, Kragujevac, Podgorica, Tuzla, Banja Luka, Florence, and Ljubljana visited Rijeka. Most of them are anesthesiologists at an intensive care unit, as they are most often involved in the treatment of acute and chronic pain. Academic colleagues from the medical faculties, as well as lawyers and economists, and heads of professional services at medical faculties were also involved. 20 representatives of partner institutions visited Rijeka during this four-day working program, while 15 researchers and experts from the University of Rijeka participated in the program.
