6th Summer School on Cres


The opening of the 6th International Summer School, organized by the University of Rijeka, UNIRI Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Pomona College (Claremont, California), University of Groningen (the Netherlands), Montclair State University (New Jersey) and the University of the South, Sewanee (Tennessee), was held on Monday, July 2, 2018, at the ''Franjo Petrić'' Elementary School in the City of Cres.

The Summer School's topic is the current concept of transitional justice and the politics of memory in the Mediterranean area. This intensive ten-day summer school explores transitional justice and the politics of memory in the context of the Mediterranean area with numerous comparative perspectives from other parts of the world.

This Summer School will also host leading professors in this area: Prof. Vjeran Pavlaković, Ph.D., UNIRI Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Prof. Mieczslaw Boduszynski, Ph.D., Pomona College in California, US, Prof. Arnaud Kurze, Ph.D., Montclair State University, New Jersey, Prof. Christopher Lamont, from the Institute for International Strategy - Tokyo International University, Prof. Christian Axboe Nielsen, Ph.D., Aarhus University, Prof. Jessica Mecellem, Ph.D., University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, and other lecturers from Croatia, Russia, Egypt and Romania.

The central lectures will be held by Prof. Monica McWilliams, a professor of Women's Studies at the University of Northern Ulster University and co-founder of the political party of the Women's Coalition of Northern Ireland. Ms. McWilliams is a former Commissioner for the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission and an associate in peace negotiations leading to the Good Friday Agreement.
