Grants for E-Infrastructure
 

 

An Agreement on Awarding Grants for the Strategic Project entitled ''Croatian Scientific and Educational Cloud'' (HR-ZOO), under the reference number KK.01.1.1.08.0001, within the scope of the operative program Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014 – 2020, was signed on Wednesday, July 18, 2018, at the Ministry of Science and Education.

The Agreement was signed by Prof. Blaženka Divjak, Ph.D., Minister of Science and Education, Mr. Zoran Bekić, Ph.D., Director of the University Computing Center (SRCE), and Mr. Tomislav Petric, Director of the Central Finance and Contracting Agency for EU Programs and Projects.

Also present at the ceremonial signing were Ms. Spomenka Đurić, State Secretary of the Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds, Mr. Tome Antičić, Ph.D., State Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Education, Mr. Ivan Marić, Deputy Director of the University Computing Center and Manager of the HR-ZOO Project, Prof. Vlado Guberac, Ph.D., Rector of the University of Osijek and Head of the Rector's Union of the Republic of Croatia, Prof. Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., University of Rijeka Rector, Prof. Mladen Janjanin, D.Arts, Vice-Rector for the Field of Arts and the International Position of the University of Zagreb, Prof. Sven Gotovac, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Naval Architecture of the University of Split, Mr. David Smith, Ph.D., Head of the ''Ruđer Bošković'' Institute, Mr. Goran Kezunović, Director of the Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNET), Prof. Drago Žagar, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Informatics of the University of Osijek, Prof. Neven Vrček, Ph.D., Dean of the Faculty of Organization and Informatics and President of the Governing Body of SRCE.

The project will help establish new data centers at universities in Osijek, Rijeka, Split and Zagreb, and will upgrade the existing data center in the building of SRCE. This will improve not only the state of national but the local infrastructure, while the largest data center will be equipped within the premises of Borongaj Science and Education Campus in Zagreb. The project also envisages a significant upgrade of the core of the CARNET network, which will connect all HR-ZOO sites at high speeds.

The project is coordinated and conducted by the University Computing Center (SRCE), and its partners: the University of Zagreb, ''Josip Juraj Strossmayer'' University of Osijek, University of Rijeka, University of Split, Croatian Academic and Research Network (CARNET) and the ''Ruđer Bošković'' Institute. The estimated duration of the project is 3 years after the signing of the Agreement.
