WUH Championship
A press conference was held on Friday, July 27, 2018, at the City of Rijeka Salon, on the occasion of announcing the World University Handball Championship set to take place in Rijeka from 30 July to 5 August 2018. The representatives of the co-organizers informed the press about the upcoming event. The respective representatives were Prof. Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., University of Rijeka Rector, Mr. Vojko Obersnel, M.Sc., City of Rijeka Mayor, Mr. Goran Petrc, Head of the Primorje-Gorski kotar County's Office, and Ms. Ivana Aničić, Championship Operative Director.
Rijeka is slowly entering its final phase of preparations for its biggest university sports event set to take place this summer. 345 athletes, divided into 19 teams, coming from 13 countries and four continents, will take part in the 24th World University Handball Championship in Rijeka.
54 handball matches will take place at the Zamet Hall, and Croatia will have both male and female representatives. The Croatian men's handball team will try to get through the group A and will play against Portugal, Lithuania, Egypt and the Czech Republic. Women's team will play against the Czech Republic, Brazil, and Japan in order to pass through the group A. In addition to these teams, the Republic of Korea, Romania, Chinese Taipei, Poland, Spain, and Uruguay will also participate in the Championship.
The opening ceremony will be held at the Zamet Hall on Monday, June 30, 2018, starting at 7.30 p.m.
