Lifelong Learning Week

Professor Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., University of Rijeka Rector, held an introductory lecture during the presentation of the Lifelong Learning Week on Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018, at the Rijeka City Hall. Madam Rector stated: ''The universities and schools have not been the only carriers of education for a long time. At the University of Rijeka, we are aware that we need to think about the revision of competencies because the market requires the so-called "tailor-made'' competencies. One of the possible solutions certainly lies in the lifelong education, the so-called "transversal" education, open-type education, and hybrid learning. It has become an unavoidable tool for complementing knowledge and skills throughout life to address the challenges of contemporary society in times of extremely rapid change, where technological progress is striking, and the pedagogical 'landscape' is deeply altered.''

Lifelong Learning Week is marked from 1 to 7 October, and the planned activities in Rijeka are coordinated by the National University. The University of Rijeka will also present its program.

The University of Rijeka has been working on the institutional development of the Lifelong Learning Program intensively since 2009 when the first acts related to the lifelong learning system at the University of Rijeka were adopted and when then the Lifelong Learning Commission started with its continuous activities.

According to the current Strategy of the University of Rijeka (2014-2020), the Lifelong Learning Week seeks to support the quality of life of the widest population by adapting to real-time, raising the level of general motivation and mental health and improving the social inclusion of citizens.

In the now 12th week of lifelong learning, along with the University of Rijeka, other University constituents also take part in the program, namely the Faculty of Economics, Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Civil Engineering, UNIRI Department of Informatics, UNIRI Department of Mathematics, UNIRI Department of Physics, Faculty of Maritime Studies, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Teacher Education and the University of Rijeka Library.
