Prof. Dominis Prester's Success

Associate Prof. Diana Dominis Prester, Ph.D., a Croatian representative in the Management Board of the Large Size Telescope collaboration, covering the Cherenkov Telescope Array International Consortium, and her team of scientists from the UNIRI Department of Physics took part in the construction of the world's most powerful gamma-telescope (with 23-meter diameter) which was set into motion on October 24th this year. It is a 10 million euro LST-1 telescope, located on the Canary Island of La Palma.

Professor Dominis Prester and her team have been working on the MAGIC project for 10 years, and the project is known for currently the world's largest gamma-telescopes with 17-meter diameter mirrors. In addition, they are members of the Cherenkov Telescope Array International Consortium whose goal is to design and build a future northern and southern gamma-observatory, which should be even bigger and more powerful than MAGIC. Along with a 24-meter LST telescope, they will also consist of the 12-meter MST and 4-meter LST telescopes, making strings.

The engagement of Prof. Dominis Prester and her team of scientists represents a significant contribution to the development of science and international visibility of Croatia and the University of Rijeka.
