Professor Žuvić New Vice-Rector

Professor Snježana Prijić-Samaržija, Ph.D., UNIRI Rector, appointed Prof. Marta Žuvić, Ph.D., acting Head of the UNIRI Department of Biotechnology, as Vice-Rector for Quality Assurance. Vice-Rector Žuvić officially took up her new duties on February 1st, 2019.

Professor Žuvić studied Mathematics and Physics and graduated from the University of Rijeka in 1998. She earned her title of Master of Natural Sciences (Molecular Biophysics) in 1995 at the University of Zagreb, and a Ph.D. in Physics in 2002 also at the University of Zagreb.

From 1989 to 2004 she worked at the Department of Physics at the UNIRI Faculty of Medicine, and after having completed the professional training for E-Learning Manager (joint study program between UBC Canada and CARNet), since 2005 she has been working on the establishment, organization and management of the University IT Academy and the E-Learning Center at the UNIRI Faculty of Engineering, which was in 2010 renamed into a Center for Learning and Teaching Support at the University of Rijeka. From 2008 to 2012 she worked at the UNIRI Faculty of Engineering, and from 2012 at the UNIRI Department of Biotechnology, in the field of biophysics, biomedicine, and analysis of scientific research data. She has participated in a dozen of scientific projects, has published 36 scientific papers quoted in WoS and Scopus databases, held 15 lectures at scientific conferences, wrote 2 book chapters, co-wrote 2 textbooks and 1 professional book, edited 2 conference proceedings and reviewed 5 international journals. She cooperated with numerous research teams at Clinical Hospital Centers (Rijeka, Zagreb, Ljubljana) as well as research centers – Forschungszentrum Juelich (Germany), Botany Institute of the University of Bonn (Germany), ''Jozef Stefan'' Institute (Ljubljana), and Institute for Medical Research IMI (Zagreb).

Professor Žuvić was the project coordinator for the establishment of cooperation between the University of Rijeka and Microsoft Croatia through the Partners in Learning project (2004 – 2005), coordinator of the Tempus project EQIBELT – Education Quality Improvement By E-Learning Technology (2006 – 2009) for the University of Rijeka, led the RICOUNT project (Development and Implementation of Lifelong Learning Using New Technologies) at the University of Rijeka from 2012 to 2014, participated in the project Competitive Croatian Higher Education for Better Employability (2013 – 2015) as an expert for the standard qualification development introducing the recognition of former learning, and led the project for the development of the Digital Competence Framework (CARNet E-Schools Project, 2016). She has successfully completed several professional training programs: Managerial-Entrepreneurial Skills Development for Researchers Program (2014 – 2015), Project Management Training in Microsoft Solutions Framework Methodology (2004) and Quality Management in Higher Education (2002).
